Liant RM/COBOL Runtime is the execution environment for applications compiled with RM/COBOL. It supplies the COBOL runtime system that handles file and device I/O, including sequential, relative, and indexed files with alternate keys; record and file locking for multi-user access; terminal/screen I/O for character-based interfaces; and integration with the host operating system. Designed for stability, backward compatibility, and a small footprint, it enables the same COBOL applications to run consistently across supported Windows and UNIX/Linux platforms.
In production, only the runtime is required to deploy and manage compiled programs, while development is performed with the separate compiler. Administrators can fine-tune behavior through configuration files and environment variables, covering areas such as file buffering, locale and character-set handling, device/printer mapping, and error handling. Organizations rely on RM/COBOL Runtime to operate long-lived line-of-business systems with predictable performance and strong data integrity, while preserving portability and minimizing disruption during maintenance or modernization.
Liant RM/COBOL Runtime is developed by Liant Software Corporation and is used by 1 user of Software Informer. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 12.2 and 12.6. The name of the program executable file is runcobol.exe.
